Dear druids and druidesses, the sequence where the songs from ASTRALA will be narrated one by one (by Harri) continues now with
THE MASKS OF ENCHANTMENT
The song and it's lyrical context is heavily influenced by world of the fairytales collected by the Grimm brothers in Germany during the 19th century. The original Grimm tales, especially their earliest versions, were really horrifying, gory and bone-chilling enough even for adult readers, not to mention the children.
To put simply, this one is about the fears of children and the ways how they have to survive them. The point is that fairy tales do matter: If we read classical fairy tales to the kids, they can undergo many kind of terrible things that happen in these tales just by listening and empathizing to them. Of course, these tales, like most fables, have often their beautiful side and often have also some kind of a moral lesson in the end.
Although this song was not easy to learn for the band, it is now one of the band favourites to play as it includes many kinds of parts, even some black metal influences in the rhytms. The middle section was made to resemble a section played by a chamber orchestra. The last chorus in the song had originally a guitar solo, but it was decided to be replaced with a synth line that supports better Susanna's vocal lines.
This song was also the opener during our recent Germany/Switzerland tour with Haggard and Sound Storm.
