Merry Beltane, how do you celebrate May Day in your country? Dance naked, drink mead, gather flowers, do you burn stuff in wicker man??
The sequence where the songs from ASTRALA will be narrated one by one (by Harri) has come to the the final sequel, which is...
At the time of writing the numerous parts of this song, I was listening a lot of Finnish prog rock from 70's. In Finland, lots of amazing music was created then. Some of the bands were much better than many more famous international names. But there was one common feature in these bands: The music they wrote had unique echoes of melancholy, like shadows from the forgotten times, era of ancient Finland. With THE FOREST, I aimed to create similar feel of timelessness. Shamans and druids could walk between the worlds and enter the higher and lower realms of existence, to travel in time and space. I wanted this song to describe the connection of these realms.
As there are many different parts within the song and the musical moods change from time to time, the mixing of the song was extremely difficult. For example, at the end of the song, there are many tonal layers at same frequencies and they had to be separated in the mixing to be audible. The choice of the guitar and synthesizer tones was an endless workload.
Originally, the name of this song was planned to be (WE ARE) THE FOREST and at one point, this was also one of the name candidates for the whole album. The song is dedicated to some of the close relatives we lost during the recording of the song. Also, the lyrics reflect the emotions we had during this time.
The forest is a place where we originally come from and it is also the place where we go when our one soul journey ends.
